Interventions to foster positive psychological capital in the organizational context: A systematic literature review

Title: Interventions to foster positive psychological capital in the organizational context: A systematic literature review
Authors: Ruiz, Ana Paula; Viseu, João; Cifuentes-Tinjaca, Cristian; Jesus, Saúl Neves
Abstract: Introduction: Psychological capital is a significant concept in organizational literature, known for improving work outcomes and workers' mental health, thus offering organizations a competitive edge. Objective: This review aimed to identify instruments, types of intervention and results associated with the promotion of Psychological Capital in organizations. Method: This research covered articles published from 2004-2023, involving working adults over 18, and in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. Using databases PubMed, Scopus, EBSCOhost, and Web of Science, 3.240 articles were identified, with 11 selected through the PRISMA methodology. Results: The primary studies involved an average of 189
workers (SD=202), mainly using the Psychological Capital Questionnaire-24 for data collection, with ANOVA as the most frequent statistical method (63.63%). Conclusion: This review highlights the benefits of PsyCap interventions and synthesizes how they have been applied, revealing a key gap: the lack of replicable models due to insufficient methodological detail. The findings emphasize the need for a structured, evidence-based PsyCap program to guide future research and practice. The study was limited to the work context, which may have restricted the scope and excluded interventions from other settings.

Self-undermining behaviour in an occupational context: a scoping review

Title: Self-undermining behaviour in an occupational context: a scoping review
Authors: Domingues, Tiago; Viseu, João; Santos, Marta
Abstract: The global work environment is changing quickly, often becoming unfavourable to employees. This scoping review aimed to synthesise the existing literature on self-undermining behaviours in the workplace, with a particular focus on their development as a concept and their application in occupational contexts. The method followed was the guidelines of the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR). A search was conducted using electronic databases (e.g., ScienceDirect, Scopus, EBSCOhost) and online platforms (e.g., ResearchGate). The list of references from the included studies was also assessed for any additional papers that could be relevant. The review’s inclusion criteria were as follows: studies published in peer-reviewed journals only in English that explored self-undermining. Of the 60 papers identified, eight studies with 4,046 participants were included; the majority followed a quantitative method and a cross-sectional design. Selfundermining was positively associated with burnout and job demands. Self-undermining mediated the relationship between several work-related factors and outcomes. The studies in this review had limitations, e.g., self-reported data. Strategies to monitor and reduce self-undermining may be a crucial intervention to prevent burnout. Organisations shall develop and implement different programs to reduce these behaviours among employees.

PsyCapPromotion Intervention Program (PIPP)for Healthcare Professionals: Intervention Description

Title: PsyCapPromotion Intervention Program (PIPP)for Healthcare Professionals: Intervention Description
Authors: Ruiz, Ana Paula; Viseu, João; Cifuentes-Tinjaca, Cristian; Jesus, Saúl Neves
Abstract: The well-being of healthcare professionals is a central factor for organizational performance and sustainability and can be promoted through the development of Positive Psychological Capital (PsyCap). The main objective of this study was to describe the development methodology of the Psychological Capital Promotion Intervention Program (PIPP), its theoretical framework, and the practical description of the intervention. The development of the PIPP followed the stages of the World Health Organization’s Healthy Workplace Model, resulting in three systematic reviews and two empirical studies, culminating in the present study, which completes the planning phase. The program was designed based on the Psychological Capital Intervention (PCI), the guidelines of the Portuguese Order of Psychologists, empirical evidence, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. Structured into six sessions, the PIPP integrates theoretical components and practical activities, including brainstorming, SMART goal setting, role-playing, mindfulness, and cognitive restructuring, supported by eight CBT techniques. Implementation occurs in three phases, with the evaluation of effects conducted at three distinct time points. The PIPP is designed to promote the development of positive psychological resources that facilitate adaptation to challenges, goal-focused behavior, and the management of adversity, contributing to improvements in cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning, as well as to healthier and more productive work environments.
