A iniciativa reuniu estudantes, investigadores, profissionais e outros interessados nas aplicações da biotecnologia vegetal, proporcionando uma abordagem integrada entre conhecimento científico, inovação tecnológica e aplicações práticas. O programa, de natureza multidisciplinar, abordou diferentes estratégias biotecnológicas aplicadas à conservação, propagação, caracterização, melhoramento e valorização de espécies de interesse agrícola e florestal. Foram exploradas metodologias de cultura in vitro, embriogénese somática, genómica, transcriptómica, metabolómica, utilização de marcadores moleculares, melhoramento genético assistido e novas técnicas genómicas, incluindo a edição genética. Foram igualmente discutidas estratégias para aumentar a resistência e resiliência das plantas face a stresses bióticos e abióticos, bem como novas abordagens para a proteção vegetal e a valorização sustentável de recursos agroflorestais. A componente prática permitiu aos participantes contactar diretamente com técnicas laboratoriais de biotecnologia vegetal, complementada por uma visita técnica dedicada à observação de aplicações da biotecnologia em contexto de investigação e inovação. O curso constituiu, assim, um espaço de aprendizagem e intercâmbio entre diferentes áreas do conhecimento, promovendo a aproximação entre investigação fundamental, inovação tecnológica e necessidades dos sistemas agroflorestais mediterrânicos. O presente Livro de Abstracts reúne os conteúdos científicos apresentados durante o curso, refletindo a diversidade de abordagens e o potencial da biotecnologia para contribuir para sistemas agrícolas e florestais mais produtivos, resilientes e sustentáveis.
