| Abstract: | Esta dissertação descreve o processo de transposição e modernização do software de análise e visualização
do sistema original.
Data Analysis and Visualisation in Astrophysics -
This dissertation describes the process of porting and modernizing the analysis and visualization software
AstroPGPLOT (Avillez et al., 2009, 2020) – originally implemented in FORTRAN and based on the
PGPLOT graphics library3
, to the modern ecosystem of the Julia language and the Makie graphics library.
The work aimed not only to reproduce the functionality of the legacy code but also to assess the
new platform’s ability to match or surpass the graphical quality and computational performance of the
original system. The result of this effort is the AstroTLPlot package (available at https://github.
com/tomalima/AstroTLPlot), a modular tool that unifies the reading, transformation, analysis, and
visualization of data from astrophysical simulations.
Beyond a faithful port of the scientific core, AstroTLPlot introduces modern capabilities such as interactive visualization and more efficient integration with contemporary scientific computing tools. The validation performed demonstrates that the transition to Julia and Makie constitutes a viable, high-performance
alternative, capable of preserving the scientific accuracy of the former system while offering significant
improvements in usability, interoperability, and future maintainability.
This work thus contributes to modernizing the workflow in high-complexity astrophysical data analysis. |
