Everything everywhere? Definitely not all at once. Uma aproximação inicial às práticas de processamento de macrofaunas da Pré-História recente do Centro e Sul de Portugal

Abstract

We review published taphonomical information on Neolithic and Chalcolithic faunas from central and Southern Portugal. The aim is to make an initial approach to macrofauna butchering and consumption practices, specifi- cally in caprine, swine, cervids, bovine and equids. Taxonomically undetermined remains are also considered when information is available, since it may help to characterise taphonomic stories. Variables under analysis are the presence of cutmarks, anthropic breakage indicators, thermal alteration (fire, boiling), tooth marks and related indicators. Although available information is unequal some preliminary considerations on these topics are discussed.
