Cuidar a Família: O Impacto da Doença Pediátrica nos Irmãos Saudáveis

Abstract

A doença em idade pediátrica afeta toda a família, incluindo os irmãos saudáveis, para quem esta resulta numa vivência disruptiva com emoções conflituosas. O bem-estar destas crianças é essencial à sua adaptação. Contudo, os irmãos são maioritariamente negligenciados ou afastados no cuidado em pediatria, estando em risco de desenvolvimento adverso por falta de uma atenção completa e oportuna às suas necessidades. Considerando o papel fundamental do enfermeiro na promoção da adaptação familiar perante a doença pediátrica, torna-se essencial a integração dos irmãos saudáveis no Cuidado Centrado na Família, como um foco além da díade criança doente-pais. Aliado à investigação da temática descrita com base na metodologia de Projeto, este Relatório evidencia o percurso formativo desenvolvido em Estágio. O mesmo consagra a análise critico-reflexiva da aquisição de competências de Mestre e Especialista em Enfermagem de Saúde Infantil e Pediátrica, espelhando a construção de um percurso diferenciado de desenvolvimento profissional e académico; Caring for the family: The impact of pediatric illness on healthy siblings - Abstract: Illness in pediatric age affects the entire family, including healthy siblings, for whom it results in a disruptive experience with conflicting emotions. The well-being of these children is essential for their adaptation. However, healthy siblings are often neglected or excluded from pediatric care, putting them at risk of developmental challenges due to a lack of comprehensive and timely attention to their needs. Considering the fundamental role of nurses in promoting the family's adaptation to pediatric illness, the integration of healthy siblings into Family-Centered Care becomes essential, expanding the focus beyond the sick child-parents dyad. In conjunction with the investigation of the described topic using the Project method, this Report highlights the educational pathway undertaken during the Internship. It encompasses a critical-reflective analysis of the acquisition of competencies as a Master's and Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, reflecting the construction of a distinctive path of professional and academic development.
