Compromisso e edificações das irmandades na Paracatu setecentista e as influências portuguesas: contributos para um roteiro pedagógico

Abstract

Esta tese tem como objeto de pesquisa os compromissos e as edificações das irmandades negras e pardas na Paracatu setecentista, em Minas Gerais – Brasil. O município de Paracatu está localizado na microrregião noroeste de Minas Gerais, situada no sudeste do Brasil. A pesquisa é recortada a partir das influências portuguesas sobre as irmandades de Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos Livres, Nossa Senhora do Amparo e Glorioso São Benedito de São Filadelfo. Nosso objetivo central é refletir sobre o papel das irmandades negras e pardas em Paracatu, com base nos Livros de Compromisso e nas edificações dessas irmandades, destacando as influências portuguesas. Além disso, buscamos apresentar a Capela de Nossa Senhora do Rosário como um importante legado colonial e investigar como ela tem sido utilizada para promover o patrimônio religioso e a identidade cultural local. Metodologicamente, o estudo foi desenvolvido por meio de pesquisa documental e trabalho de campo, cruzando-se com o estado da arte sob uma perspectiva interdisciplinar, com a História como eixo central. A atenção foi direcionada às capelas erguidas em Minas Gerais no século XVIII, com enfoque específico no Arraial de Paracatu. As irmandades mencionadas foram agremiações essenciais para o desenvolvimento urbano da região. Também foram detectadas as atividades econômicas no Arraial e analisada a riqueza dos Livros de Compromisso dessas irmandades. Identificamos a origem dos papéis utilizados na elaboração desses livros e examinamos a materialidade dos documentos. As irmandades formadas no Arraial de Paracatu seguiam hierarquias sociais bem definidas, tanto em termos sociais quanto raciais, e sofreram influências portuguesas em sua arquitetura, normatização, organização social, religiosa e cultural, além de outras influências, como a africana. Por fim, analisamos o legado dessas irmandades constituídas no período colonial, especialmente a Capela de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, que ainda hoje permanece como parte da paisagem histórico-cultural de Paracatu. Nesse contexto, refletimos sobre sua utilização e contribuições para a elaboração de um roteiro pedagógico; - COMMITMENT AND BUILDINGS OF BROTHERHOODS IN 18TH CENTURY PARACATU AND PORTUGUESE INFLUENCES: CONTRIBUTIONS TO A PEDAGOGICAL GUIDE - ABSTRACT: This thesis focuses on the commitments and constructions of the black Africans and african-brazilians catholic brotherhoods in 18th-century Paracatu, located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The municipality of Paracatu is situated in the northwestern microregion of Minas Gerais, in the southeastern part of Brazil. The research is framed by the Portuguese influences on the brotherhoods of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos Livres, Nossa Senhora do Amparo, and Glorioso São Benedito de São Filadelfo. Our central objective is to reflect on the role of the black Africans and african-brazilians catholic in Paracatu through the analysis of the Livros de Compromisso (Commitment Books) and the architectural constructions of these brotherhoods, emphasizing the Portuguese influences. Additionally, we aim to present the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Rosário as an important colonial legacy and explore how it has been utilized to promote local religious heritage and cultural identity. Methodologically, the study was conducted through documentary research and fieldwork, intersected with the state of the art from an inter; disciplinary perspective, with History serving as the central focus. Attention was directed to the chapels built in Minas Gerais during the 18th century, with a specific focus on the settlement of Paracatu. The brotherhoods mentioned were essential organizations for the urban development of the region.We also identified economic activities in Arraial in the settlement and analyzed the richness of the Livros de Compromisso of these brotherhoods. The origins of the paper used in the elaboration of these books were traced, and their materiality was examined. The brotherhoods formed in the Paracatu settlement adhered to well-defined social hierarchies, both socially and racially, and were influenced by Portuguese elements in their architecture, social norms, and religious and cultural organization, along with influences from other peoples, such as the Africans. Finally, we analyzed the legacy of these brotherhoods established during the colonial period, with particular emphasis on the Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, which remains part of Paracatu's historical and cultural landscape. In this context, we reflected on its use and contributions to the creation of a pedagogical framework.
